Fist of Fury: The Stinger

By Phil Elmore

I first became aware of the stinger through
James Keating‘s
Combat Technologies.  This little keychain is available from the
manufacturer in a variety of colors.  The one shown
here is transparent, but most of the other colors are opaque.

The stinger is a remarkably simple pressure point
tool.  Uncomplicated in design and reasonably intuitive in use, the stinger
turns your hand into a point-delivery device.  This allows you to
concentrate force into the plastic nub of the tool.

The stinger can be equipped with a split ring for keys,
but the keys do tend to get in the way of using it in the hand.  Belt
sheaths for the stinger are also available.

The Martialist carries the stinger
in its online store.

Not too long ago I was keeping
somewhat irregular hours.  I found myself at a convenience store-gas
station at three in the morning, fueling my car and getting coffee.  While
I was in the store, a belligerent and obviously drunk man entered the shop and
began giving the clerk a lot of grief.

While I watched, I slipped into my
hand the only equalizer I had with me – the little plastic stinger.  I’d
left the house unprepared, intending to make a quick trip, so only my keychain
was handy.

Fortunately for me, the drunk got
his cigarettes, tired of his verbal abuse, and left.  The clerk looked at
me and I looked at him.  We both breathed a sigh of relief.  I’m glad
I didn’t have to try and use the stinger for self-defense – and I’m glad I had
it with me just in case.

If you can legally carry one of these little
gadgets, do so.

It may give you the advantage
you need.
